【楊勝裕／新竹報導】新竹巨城購物中心18歲呂姓男工讀生，今下午4時許，因一名小朋友遊戲卡從5樓掉到4樓欄杆外的木板上，呂生為了幫小朋友撿回遊戲卡，跨過4樓欄杆，整個人踩在填補空隙的木板，因木板無法荷重，掉到3樓地板，當場血流如注，3樓休息區消費者見狀大吃一驚。林姓消費者說，當時先聽到「啊」聲，接著聽到「砰」一聲巨響，就看到一個人躺在那裡，血流滿地。

巨城公關經理游欣宜說，工讀生可能沒注意到欄杆玻璃上的警語「請勿進入」，會跨越欄杆，導致木板無法承重。目前該名工讀生因頭部骨折受創，已轉院到台大總院治療中。
