美國拉斯維加斯金沙集團13日宣布，取消在西班牙馬德里興建「歐洲維加斯」的220歐元（約台幣8958億元）的計畫，計畫原定興建12座旅館、6個賭場、1個會議中心、多個高爾夫球場、電影院、購物中心、酒吧和餐廳等。金沙集團聲明說，這項建案不符合公司的迫切興建計畫，將另尋亞洲市場。

西班牙失業率高達26%，歐洲維加斯原本可望帶來26萬個工作機會。但反對者認為，這些工作機會可能影響現行的禁菸法律，帶來娼妓，且只會釋出低薪工作。
