被聯合國教科文組織列為世界文化遺產的山西平遙古城，城牆多處出現險情，大陸當局正進行搶救修繕。

新華社報導，此次修繕工作主要是委託山西省古建築保護研究所的專業人員進行。該所副所長任毅敏介紹說，此次修繕的六段古城牆主要位於西城牆、北城牆和東城牆，險情都比較嚴重。

修繕工程總投資一千五百多萬元人民幣，預計將十月底完工。技術人員根據險情的輕重緩急，對危害逐段進行消除。

平遙古城是目前中國大陸唯一以整座古城申報世界文化遺產獲得成功的古縣城，其古城牆四周全長六千一百六十三米，城池面積二點二五平方公里，現存有六座城門甕城、四座角樓和七十二座敵樓。現存的古城牆為明朝洪武三年，即一千三百七十年擴建的磚石包砌的城牆，是目前中國大陸境內現存最完整的一座明清時期古代城牆。

但由於年代久遠，平遙古城牆多處出現了不同程度的老化和破損。主要包括牆體內部出現孔洞、內牆局部坍塌、部分牆體出現大裂縫等。
